For many years Kevin Edberg has been involved in cooperative, farmer and community owned renewable energy projects in his home state of Minnesota. Edberg has helped secure grants for projects and he's done equity drives for farmers who became involved with biodiesel, ethanol and wind production. Edberg sees a bright future ahead for ethanol, most of it is now produced in the Midwest and mostly corn-based.

Because of feedstock Edberg says there are also limits on biodiesel production. However, as those two renewable fuels mature, he sees two other renewable fuels expanding and farmers can be a part of the equation; cellulosic ethanol production is one of them.

Edberg will be in Boise next week to talk about the successes and failures of farmer owned renewable energy co-ops. The Harvesting Clean Energy Workshop is being held January 29th and 30th.
