11/10/06 BLM RAC`s

Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne has appointed 22 new members to Idaho's Resources Advisory Council's. There are four RAC's which advise the Bureau of Land Management on public land issues. DAVIS-BRUNNER "Their input on sage grouse plans, that kind of thing. Off highway vehicles are becoming a big issue and we asked for citizens' advice on those management issues as well." BLM's Shelley Davis-Brunner says there are 24 RAC's across the West, four in Idaho by district; Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Boise and Coeur d'Alene. Each council has 15 members who are appointed to three years terms, allowing for a one-third turnover every year. DAVIS-BRUNNER "We'll have federal grazing permittees, we'll have recreation folks, we'll have representatives of environmental organizations, historical organizations, wild horse and burro interests. We have public at large, elected officials." While they don't make decisions their input is taken into account when BLM decisions are made. Early next year BLM will again be looking for nominees for the next round of appointments. Today's Idaho Ag News Bill Scott
