11/09/06 "Winning the Game" workshops

Farm and Ranch November 9, 2006 Winning the Game 2: Launch Your Pre-Harvest Marketing Plan is the subject of workshops in eastern Washington and northern Idaho next week. The half-day workshops being presented by Washington State University Extension are filled with practical, easy to execute advice to help farmers secure a good average price for their crop. Dennis Fiess of the WSU Western Center for Risk Management Education says four similar workshops in January of this year drew great reviews by farmers. Fiess: "We just got comments like the best workshop ever. Now I finally understand marketing. The comments couldn't have been more positive. So we decided to do it again." Fiess says "Winning the Game" was adapted specifically for northwest white wheat and the workshops simulate real-life grain marketing decisions, enabling farmers to practice marketing without the risk of losing actual money. Fiess: "We want something to be appropriate for northwest farmers not something imported from the Midwest. And that is what this is. It uses our local prices, our local situations. We have a presenter that really knows and understands our markets." Here is the workshop schedule; November 13th in Coulee City, November 14th in Davenport and Ritzville, November 15th in Walla Walla, November 16th in Clarkston and also Craigmont, Idaho, and November 17th in Genesee, Idaho and Colfax, Washington.
