PETA Advertisement PETA is stirring up controversy again. This time it is in the United Kingdom. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be right back with details. A new advertising campaign developed by PETA that's People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for you who have not had the pleasure of being introduced to the group or their radial ways is of course causing uproar in the United Kingdom. The ad campaign is typical, vintage PETA it's theme reads "Feeding kids meat is child abuse." The UK's Advertising Standards Authority has received 59 complaints against the ad in less than a month. Surprisingly, most of the complaints come from the general public rather than those involved in meat production. These concerned submissions accused the PETA campaign to be "untrue, misleading and an insult to those who had suffered abuse." Douglas Brydges, president of the International Meat Trade Association said he was outraged by the advertisement that urged parents to go "Go Veg" since feeding meat to children was child abuse because meat eating contributed to life threatening diseases. PETA, of course, offered no apology saying studies show damage caused by a meat based diet starts in childhood. I'm sure the lifestyle of the child would have nothing to do with future health problems. Personally, I think it's child abuse when you refuse a child a chance to enjoy a good hamburger. You know, like Jimmy Buffet's "Cheeseburger in Paradise." The food variety in that baby is definitely a complete meal by any standards. I'm Jeff Keane. Western Livestock Reporter 11/1/06
