Farm Bureau Hopes for Senate Farm Bill Passage

The 2018 Farm Bill is now entering its fourth year, and while the One Big Beautiful bill included many provisions that would typically be a part of a farm bill, several issues still need to be addressed. American Farm Bureau Federation executive vice president Joby Young with an update on where things stand and what is next?

“This farm bill that we're talking about now contains the rest of these important provisions that, as Farm Bureau and really commodity groups and other ag groups across the country, have really been pushing for a number of things that this bill delivers. So it did pass the Senate Agriculture Committee, a very important step, and we'll go on from here to the full Senate. And hopefully, as we move through the rest of the remainder of the year. We can push through and get it passed through both the Senate and House. “

With tough conditions continuing across the ag industry, Young says the farm bill includes several key provisions that could benefit producers, including updated loan limits.

“Those loan limits that the the farmers are operating under right now have have not been updated since 2018, and we know a lot has changed since then in terms of production prices and other things. So that's very that's very important. Another key provision is year-round E 15, which is something that we as Farm Bureau have been pushing strongly for. So we're very happy to see that in the bill. And of course, there are other provisions like rural development, title, conservation pieces, research pieces, and the rest. But a lot, a lot of good in this bill that we're happy to see.” AFBF's Joby Young.
