Micropep Submits Peptide Product for Approval in Brazil, Paraguay

Micropep Technologies recently announced the submission of regulatory dossiers for Promisin™, its lead peptide-based biofungicide, in Brazil and Paraguay. Vice president of regulatory affairs Kevin Leiner anticipates that the US will be next, and says farmers should be excited about this use for peptide technology.
Leiner… “ A peptide is just a short chain of amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of peptides and proteins that do all of the work in our bodies. And that confers with it a really favorable, human and environmental safety profile because these aren't going to be persistent in the environment. We're not gonna be concerned about residues. So you get the benefits of sustainability and low residue without sacrificing performance.”
Leiner said the peptide approach allows for a completely novel mode of action, the environmental benefits he just talked about, and a more stable and versatile option than many biologicals.
Leiner… “ Unlike biologicals that most farmers would be familiar with, which are based on viable microbes, we don't really have to worry as much about stability and challenges with mixing our product with conventional pesticides because it's not a viable microorganism. It's more like a chemical that way. So it has the best of both worlds, really.”
The initial submissions in Brazil and Paraguay represent the first phase of a broader regulatory strategy.
