From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. One of America’s most important trade agreements is up for renewal this year, and the ag community is watching very closely.

American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall says a strong farm economy is driven by healthy international trade, and strong trade agreements create that strong

economy here at home …

DUVALL … “One of the most important is the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement… known as USMCA. Canada and Mexico are by far America’s largest trading partners. Together, they spend almost 60-billion dollars on agricultural products every year.”

And, Duvall says the agreement benefits America’s families, too …

DUVALL … “A recent study by Purdue University shows that without USMCA, families would have paid 700 dollars more per year on groceries. North American trade agreements have enabled year-round availability of certain products and helped develop markets for America’s farmers.”

Duvall say renewing the USMCA is important …

DUVALL … “All three countries are now considering extending USMCA for another 16 years. We support its renewal. Farmers need the certainty that USMCA provides.

Again, that’s Zippy Duvall, President of the American Farm Bureau Federation."
