As agriculture becomes increasingly data-driven, producers are relying on more technology platforms to manage their operations. The challenge lies in making sure those tools can work together rather than forcing producers to choose a single provider. Terrell Miller, founder of CattleMax, says he believes the future of agricultural commerce will be built around collaboration, not competition.

Miller… “ In general, 10 years from now we'll see just the volumes of data that producers have, and there will not be a single company that does it all. There's just too much to be done for a single company. And so our philosophy and our belief of where things are going is that there will be a lot of companies that specialize, whether it's genomic testing, water monitoring, herd health, vaccinations, carcass, marketing. And so the producers will be looking for ways of having their preferred partners being able to integrate with their herd management system. They're gonna have a lot more data, and it's going to be much more important that the industry plays well together. The walled gardens, the proprietary technologies, the exclusive relationships–-I think will really not have the strength that they even have nowadays.”

Miller also points to the rise of genomic testing and other technologies as a key development he expects to see in the future.
