Proposed Montana Lamb Project Aims to Strengthen Local Agriculture

A proposed lamb finishing facility in south-central Montana could create new opportunities for sheep producers, grain farmers, and rural communities across the region.

Sheep producer Henry Hollenbeck shares his vision for transforming an existing grain elevator site into a modern indoor lamb feeding facility designed to support American lamb production, strengthen local grain markets, and generate economic growth. The project would integrate lamb finishing, grain utilization, nutrient recycling, and processing into one vertically integrated system.

Hollenbeck explains how the facility's enclosed design, manure management system, and nutrient recycling plan could benefit both livestock producers and area farmers while addressing environmental concerns. He also discusses the role the project could play in keeping more value-added agriculture in Montana and expanding markets for American lamb.

A public hearing on the proposed project is scheduled before Stillwater County officials as the permitting process moves forward.
