National Association of Wheat Growers, CEO Sam Kieffer says that the House of Representatives is making progress on a new Farm Bill.

“Chairman of the House Ag Committee, GT Thompson, has been working with House leadership, and they are moving toward getting a vote on the full floor, and NAWG is out there knocking on every door we can, Republican and Democrat, to make sure that we get this critical legislation across the finish line.:

As for Senate work on a farm bill,

“Well, Chairman Bozeman has indicated his willingness to move the process along, and the Senate, like the House, has slim margins. Chairman Bozeman is going to need to navigate a lot of different kinds of nuance and concerns in the upper chamber than Chairman Thompson had to deal with in the House. The chairman is motivated to get something moving and get something moving quickly, but again, the game of chess is going to be drastically different. Staff side, what I'm hearing is that they are working on language and trying to clear as many hurdles before they get to the actually get into a markup, so that when that process starts, it can move quickly, but that requires a whole lot of conversations with Senators from both sides of the aisle.”
