Regional Food Supply Chains

Trying to scale a small farm profitably from small and direct to larger and more regional can be a challenge. Chris Jagger of Blue Fox Farms says more work needs to be done to develop supply chains that can accommodate farmers who want to sell more regionally.
Jagger.. “A lot of it comes down to supply chain and supply chains. One of those things that we've seen supply chains be affected over the, like last five or six years, whether it's been COVID or whether it's been the world of tariffs, or whether it's been just hiccups in the system, or the most recent one that I saw a direct effect was cyber attacks.”
Jagger hopes to build a more regional food supply chain in his region of the Pacific Northwest.
Jagger… “Because so much of the supply chain is controlled by the majors, and I understand why it makes sense from an efficiency standpoint, but from a more interesting and more, maybe it's not fair to say human standpoint, but I like thinking about things in terms that individuals can affect, you know, I've been trying to think about what that would look like in our region. Like if we could start building a supply chain that is more resilient to hiccups in the greater system.”
Jagger says the demand for regional food systems is there, but the struggle lies in scalability from the producer to meet that demand.
