09/29/06 Leeks & Montrachet

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today is Food & Wine pairing day. Recently I had a Chef friend make dinner for me and it was all superb. However, the first course was especially delightful. I want to tell you about a special dish using leeks and of course, the wine that went with it. I went to Walla Walla, WA for work and I always look forward to visiting good friends. The bonus of this friendship is that one of the friends just happens to be a trained Chef. Well, as he always does, he made a dinner to die for. The first course was a pair of braised leeks with a most delightfully light and brothy sauce. The presentation was simple and the result was simply lovely. His wife selected a Chassagne-Montrachet to accompany this course. The combination was stellar! I was informed that the recipe for the leeks was from Martha Stewart, so I am certain it is readily available. As for the wine that went with it Chassagne-Montrachet is a French wine from the area of Burgundy known as Chassagne-Montrachet. Nowadays about 60% of the wines from Chassagne-Montrachet are white. They are made from Chardonnay and are among the best in Burgundy, even in France and they are becoming increasingly popular. Cruise your cookbooks for a nice braised leek recipe and serve it with a reputable Chassagne-Montrachet and just try wiping that mmm mmm smile off of your face. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
