MAHA Hearing
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Last Tuesday, when Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., testified before a Senate Ag committee, Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith from Mississippi grilled the leader of the Make America Healthy Again, or MAHA Commission, about its report being critical of farm chemical use.She asked Kennedy point-blank if he’s able to refute 50 years of scientific government reviews and if that’s in the report …
RFK … “Your information about the report is just simply wrong. In the drafts that I've seen, there is not a single word in them that should worry the American farmer. Senator Hyde-Smith - And you can prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt? RFK - You'll see the report. It's going to be released on Thursday.
And that, Kennedy says is important …
RFK … “There's nobody that has a greater commitment to the American farmer than we do. The MAHA movement collapses if we can't partner with the American farmer in producing a safe, robust, and abundant food supply.”
As for the use of pesticides …
RFK … “There are a million farmers who rely on glyphosate. A hundred percent of corn in this country relies on glyphosate. And we are not going to do anything to jeopardize that business model.”
So, bottom line …
RFK … “Senator Hyde-Smith – You’re saying my comments are totally inaccurate. RFK – Totally inaccurate.”
The MAHA report was released on Thursday and is now being heavily scrutinized. Kennedy will have more, I’m sure, as the questions keep coming.
