From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. Well, the 2025 clock is ticking and there are still no signs of Congress getting any closer to a new Farm Bill.

U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says it’s not easy, but he’s still confident that it will get done, at some point …

NEWHOUSE … “This is not the first time in history that it’s been difficult to get a Farm Bill passed. There’s been several times that it’s taken multiple attempts, and so I’m definitely not throwing in the towel or giving up on the effort.”

Newhouse says efforts to get a new Farm Bill done are definitely on the table …

NEWHOUSE … “But I think it’s vital to agriculture that we update those things that are important to the industry, and I know the chairman is determined to get it passed as well. The fact that we’ve had some difficulties and obstacles is not uncommon. This is probably one of the hardest things to accomplish in Congress.”

As for talks in some corners that we may have seen our last Farm Bill, Newhouse says …

NEWHOUSE … “It happens every five years, historically it does, and as you can imagine, there’s a lot of different opinions and perspectives that have to be taken into account before we reach agreement. So, I’m not dissuaded from being able to do it. It’s hard, but we just have to be persistent in getting the work done. But no, I’ve heard no rumors to the effect that that was the last one.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on the odds of getting a new Farm Bill or extension sometime in 2025.
