American Rancher September 18, 2006 Applications are being accepted for the 2007 Beef Industry Scholarship Program, sponsored by the National Cattlemen's Foundation (NCF) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). Roxanne Johnson of the National Cattlemen's Foundation explains.
Johnson: "We are very excited to offer scholarships to young people who are interested in the beef industry. We have 20 scholarships of 15-hundred dollars each that will be awarded to these young people. They need to be in an undergraduate role. And it can be for a two year or four year college. It will be for the next academic year."
Applicants do have to write a 750 word essay.
Johnson: "They need an essay that identifies a key issue in the beef industry and offers a solution. They also need two letters of recommendation."

The first-place scholarship winner will also receive airfare and lodging to attend the Cattle Industry Annual Convention and Trade Show in Nashville, Tenn., at the end of January.
