January Cattle Inventory Lower and NCBA Approves Policy Priorities
From the Ag Information Network, this is your Agribusiness Update.**USDA's January Cattle Inventory report shed light on the state of the U.S. cattle industry.
This, after the USDA’s National Ag Statistic Service cancelled last July’s report, removing critical transparency from cattle markets.
The report says all cattle and calves on January 1 totaled
86.7 million head, down about 1% from a year earlier.
The inventory falls within the range of estimates and shows continued contraction in the U.S. cattle herd.

**With the Trump administration announcing new measures to curtail illegal immigration, the Colorado Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association says members will continue to invest in programs that give growers the best chance of having long-term staffing.
Association President Chuck Hanagan says our farmers have purchased or built worker housing, invested in training and worked hard to make their operations attractive to workers, H-2A or domestic.
**The National Cattlemen's Beef Association's Executive Committee approved its policy priorities at CattleCon 2025 in San Antonio recently.
The focus will be on engaging with the Trump Administration and Congress to expand opportunities for producer profitability.
On the list is retaining wins in last year’s House Ag Committee-passed Farm Bill, preserving family farms and ranches with essential tax relief, and fighting for meaningful relief from the reporting requirements of the Corporate Transparency Act.
