Following the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza in not one, but two commercial poultry flocks in Georgia, the state is going back to somewhat business as usual.

This week Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper announced that the Georgia Department of Agriculture has lifted the suspension of poultry activities and released the HPAI Control Area around affected premises after comprehensive testing and response measures found no additional HPAI detections. Although two premises in Elbert County remain under quarantine, Harper said poultry producers and enthusiasts can now return to normal operations.

From Comissioner Harper, “While this announcement is a great step in the right direction, HPAI remains a significant threat to our #1 industry, and the Georgia Department of Agriculture will continue working around the clock to protect our state’s flocks and to keep prices as low as possible for Georgia consumers.”
