Research Shows Almonds Good for Cardiometabolic Health

The California Almond Commission continues to prioritize research highlighting the importance of almonds and the Almond Board's commitment to sound science. Elena Hemler, associate director of nutrition research at the Almond Board of California, shares more on their efforts and the diverse benefits of almonds.

“We just completed a really, really exciting project where we brought together 11 world leading scientific experts from around the from around the globe, to do a critical analysis of all of our research on almonds and cardiometabolic Health. So when I say cardiometabolic health- I'm talking about the impacts of almonds on heart health, on weight, on blood sugar and diabetes, even on your on gut health and your gut might go by can mediate a lot of those beneficial effects.”

The California Almond Commission convened a panel of experts for an in depth review of three decades of research on almond nutrition and benefits.

“The experts did their review. They drafted a white paper, a consensus document that really summarized and provided their expert analysis on the benefits of almonds. And so they concluded that almonds are beneficial for heart health. They can improve LDL, which is the bad cholesterol. They are very helpful for weight management, and they can be associated with a slight weight loss in some situations.”
