The Owyhee River basin stretches over 11 thousand square miles of eastern Oregon and southwestern Idaho providing the irrigation and recreational needs of that region. Carl Hill of the Owyhee Watershed Council was on hand at a field day to welcome elementary school students from Marsing, Idaho and Nyssa, Jordan Valley, Adrian and Pleasant Valley, Oregon.
HILL "They are our future adults and to introduce them to the conservation and the practices and the functions of the watershed is very important so they understand the things they will have to make decisions in the future on."
The goal of this field day along the Owyhee River is to teach the children about the river itself and its many uses.
BIRD LADY "He has built in binoculars. Nature was thinking very well when she designed this guy."
The Watershed Council knows there needs to be a balanced use of the watershed which is vital to the two-state rural economy. They hope the kids got that message too.
Tomorrow, the city kids go to the farm.
