“Stockyards were built in 1910 had a 100-year anniversary several years back. Number one was the last true posted stockyards that has commissioned firms. There were dozens of them all across the country. Everyone else is going to be your normal mom-and-pop or LLC-type sale Barnum, some nature. So we're the last one. We've got commission firms. We are nine commission firms that actually sell out of our facility. So I'm president of Oklahoma National Stockyards, which is the facility itself, the brick and mortar. And we have nine commission firms that represent the cattle in the ring that are actually the container for the producer.”
Reynolds says that, buyer interest has been high, and explains some of the reasoning behind the decision to sell.
“Our current Board Chairman, Chris back lives in Montana. He has a great, great granddad, built this facility back in 19 worked with the city of Oklahoma City founders to get these guys here. And family was heavily involved all these years. He's been the chairman for 20-plus years now, I believe. But those guys just feel it's time to transition the ownership of the stockyards to more local group of people, play group people that recognize the rich history of this 110-plus year facility, the impact that it has on the producers in our region, in our area, and we'll continue doing things business as usual to make sure that we've provided a facility that really maximize what those producers sell their cattle for?
The Oklahoma National Stockyard is the world's largest feeder and cattle stocker market.
