Eat Local First Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. With September declared “Eat Local Month” this is a great time to get out and enjoy some of the incredible foods grown or made in Washington state.Maressa Valliant, Director of Eat Local First, says educating us and helping us find all the great foods Washington has to offer is their mission …
VALLIANT … “So, you play a foundational role in strengthening the connection between local food, local communities, and regional economies by being the go-to resource for finding food that is grown, raised, harvested, and made in our state.”
Valliant says it’s a win-win for producers and consumers …
VALLIANT … “So, whether it’s the restaurant that’s sourcing locally or it’s a local farm that is such a pillar in their community, they’re feeding their community, they’re building community at farmer’s markets, it’s the fabric of who we are and we’re so fortunate to have such a diverse and vibrant agricultural and seafood culture here in the Northwest.”
Their website, Valliant says helps with awareness …
VALLIANT … “We just don’t think people are often aware of it enough so helping to give them more visibility, amplify the hard work, people that have their head down just growing food, that’s what we’re here for.”
