With your Southeast Regional Ag News, I am Haylie Shipp. This is the Ag Information Network.

An article posted on DairyHerd.com (https://shorturl.at/oBMSX) late last year opened up by stating, “Beef-on-dairy is arguably the most significant advancement for the U.S. beef industry in a generation.”

They tied it back to projections from CattleFax with the analytical company reporting the estimated beef/dairy cross calf crop at 50,000 head in 2014 based on semen sales as compared to a projected 3.22 million head crop in 2024.

Want more on the trend? Then get ready to hunker down for some education. As part of the “Rancher’s Thursday Lunchtime Series” put together by Oklahoma State University Extension, this will be the topic of discussion this Thursday at noon Central. Specifically they’ll be focusing on beef on dairy crossbreds in beef production with a presentation by Bailey Basiel from Penn State University discussing how sire breeds and selection within a breed affects performance and carcass quality from beef on dairy crosses.

I do want to note that this is building upon a similar topic that they covered last week which you can also watch a replay of. If you’re ready for me to stop talking so you can start learning, just head to the OSU Extension website: https://extension.okstate.edu/programs/beef-extension/
