From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. Some big changes in the works at Pear Bureau Northwest.

After nearly 23 years as president and CEO of the Portland-based non-profit, Kevin Moffitt says he’s retiring …

MOFFITT … “Well, I think it’s just time. I actually will be transitioning out over the next season, so it isn’t abrupt. I will be in a training and mentoring role staring in July of this year.”

Moffitt says it’s been a great ride …

MOFFITT … “So yeah, I started in November of ’89. So, I started in the export department. I was the Director of Export Marketing and, yeah, moved over to the President’s role in July of 2001.”

Of his many accomplishments, Moffitt says one in particular stands out …

MOFFITT … “I would say my, looking back, the thing that I’m most proud of is really bringing on the ripening side, the conditioning.”

Helping consumers understand pears, Moffitt says has been rewarding …

MOFFITT … “We were pretty early on in working with those online shopping sites. And today, since COVID, a fair amount of our retail funding goes towards sponsored search, and shoppable recipes, and that sort of thing on online shopping sites. So, that’s been a lot of fun and a big learning experience that I’ve really enjoyed.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on the Pear Bureau’s changing of the guard and what lies ahead for the industry.
