Performance data is one of the most valuable insights agriculture has at its fingertips today. Vice president of agricultural solutions at Corteva Agriscience, Brian Lutz, says the key is using that data to make informed business decisions to better prepare product inventory.

Lutz… “There are so many variables that go into the performance that’s ultimately achieved. And we know that local conditions and individualized decisions around management practices have a big effect on the outcome. We’re just at a unique opportunity from an industry perspective where again, we don’t necessarily have to treat all customers in a region the same way. When we are able to pick up on the signals that a product is performing particularly well for a particular customer, we can do everything we can to make sure we’re getting that product for that customer in the future. So some examples of how we do that, we can use things like satellite imagery even to understand which products are performing really well in season even before harvest. The earlier we can get those signals that a product is doing particularly well, the more opportunity we have to start to influence our decisions about where do we move our inventory, how do we influence things like the demand signal.”

Lutz says Corteva Agriscience is shifting their digital strategy to have a greater investment in these areas.
