SOAR Act Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. Organic agriculture is fairly common in the Pacific Northwest and continues to expand. To that end, U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse introduced the Strengthening Organic Agricultural Research, or SOAR Act to increase USDA funding for research to help farmers involved in organic production, or those farmers looking to begin organic practices, be more productive …
NEWHOUSE … “I’m very proud of what our Washington state growers have done in the organic world. And this legislation is going to insure our farmers gain the access to critical research programs that will help them continue to meet that growing demand for organic products.”
This is something, Newhouse says the Department of Agriculture does very well…
NEWHOUSE … “I’ve recognized that USDA truly has had what you could call a “flagship research program” as it relates to organic research. And they truly do support applied research projects that, you know, through the collaboration with many of our growers, they worked to sell the problems that our growers are facing and helps them to become more efficient, more productive and, most importantly, more profitable.”
And, Newhouse says help meet the growing demand for organic produce.
Tune in tomorrow for more on the SOAR Act aimed at helping expand organic production.
