From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. Apple country artists, you have less than a week to get in your apple artwork for this year’s Washington Apple Education Foundation’s “Year of the Apple” competition.

WAEF Executive Director, Dr. Faviola Barbosa says your apple artwork is due no later than Monday, May 1st …

BARBOSA … “This is our 28th year of doing the Year of the Apple competition, and we do this in partnership with Corteva AgriScience. They’ve been sponsoring our contest and they go out and promote it with us. They actually provide a $1,000 check to the Grand Prize winner.”

The second and third place artists will get $500 and $250 respectively, and Dr. Barbosa says the winner’s artwork will get plenty of public exposure …

BARBOSA … “Their artwork is then featured in our calendars for the following year. We use them in our promotional material. We put them on our annual report. So, this person gets their art featured throughout the whole state.”

And which artists are eligible to participate in the Year of the Apple competition? …

BARBOSA … “The eligible participants are 9th graders through 12th grade. And we have a variety of counties that we accept artwork from. We accept artwork from Adams, Benton, Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Franklin, Kittitas, Okanogan, Walla Walla, and Yakima.”

Barbosa says, keep in mind, all entries must be original pieces, and be no smaller than 8 ½ X 11 and no larger than 11 X 17.
