From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Work continues in Congress on getting the 2023 Farm Bill across the finish line. With the economic challenges facing agriculture, the priorities may need some flexibility.

U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse, says the economic challenges certainly won’t be easy …

NEWHOUSE … “We’re looking, as a majority, looking for ways that we can get our economy turned around and get spending to more closely match our revenue here in Washington D.C. So, every piece of legislation, Farm Bill included, comes under that microscope of how we can do things more efficient.”

Finding ways to save, Newhouse says will undoubtedly add to the debate …

NEWHOUSE … “That’s going to impact the ability for some things to, whether it be increased or decreased or eliminated altogether, or a combination of those things throughout the Farm Bill, it’s going to cause a lot of debate and concern and adds to the complication of passing the Farm Bill.”

But in the end, Newhouse says, he’s feeling optimistic …

NEWHOUSE … “It’s never easy. There’s a lot of work that goes into it. But, you know, this is one of those “must pass” pieces of legislation and I truly believe that we will be successful in the long run and get this done.”

Newhouse says they’re always looking for more input from

farmers and ranchers on Farm Bill priorities.
