Ag Leadership Program Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. The next Agricultural Leadership Program, a comprehensive, bilingual training program for farm supervisors, begins April 28th at Wenatchee Valley College.Ofelio Borges, with the State Department of Agriculture, says it’s a program to help future leaders reach their full potential …
BORGES … “We want supervisors and managers that inspire, that look at things as opportunities rather than obligations. And we strongly believe that this program could take the agricultural industry to the next level.”
The course, Borges says, is about the nuances of management …
BORGES … “Some of the topics we are covering in our courses have to do with, again, leadership aspects that have to do with conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, stress management, building trust, communications.”
And, put it into practice …
BORGES … “Our goal is for them to go back to their work places and start applying some of the concepts that they take from the leadership program. So, this program also includes a mentorship time.”
The Washington State Tree Fruit Association’s Jaqui Gordon says the idea for this program started years ago with industry support …
GORDON … “We had many different companies attending this first workshop. We had a variety of farm companies and groups that are involved in the industry. And, we also have private suppliers supporting us as sponsors because they believe in the program, they believe in our mission.”
The registration deadline is April 21st and is limited to three people per company. For questions, call the Washington State Tree Fruit Association.
