WOTUS Repeal Vote Pt 1

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. The House of Representatives passed H.J. Res. 27, a resolution to overturn the Waters of the U.S. rule by a vote of 227-198.

Shortly before Thursday’s vote, I spoke with Representative Dan Newhouse about the resolution, which he was fairly confident would pass …

NEWHOUSE … “We’ll see what happens when it gets to the Senate. Maybe its future is a little less certain, but certainly sends the message to the administration, how important it is to provide certainty to businesses, to farmers across the country.”

Newhouse says there’s no need to keep flip-flopping …

NEWHOUSE … “That’s what this legislations boils down to, the effort to stay with what is currently in place and then, by this fall, hopefully, we’ll have clearer direction from the Supreme Court.”

The Biden WOTUS rule, Newhouse says is flawed and burdensome … in already difficult times …

NEWHOUSE … “People in Central Washington understand this truly is an egregious overreach against private property rights, by the administration. The uncertainty level is so high, it really is causing a lot of heartache for property owners.”

Newhouse believes it sends a message …

NEWHOUSE … “It certainly sends a message to the American people about where we see the priority lying here.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on the House passage of a WOTUS repeal.
