Leader of the House Ag Committee Speaks on the Farm Bill

The Farm Bill is a top conversation in the Capital this year, and it also dominated much of the legislative discussion at the World Ag Expo in Tulare.

I spoke with House Ag Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson following the Farm Bill listening session, and when it comes to his priorities with the Farm Bill…

“Well my biggest goal is, quite honestly, -it's pretty upfront- it's to pass it in a bipartisan, bicameral on-time manner, that results in a highly effective farm bill for those who produce those who process and those who consume. Oh, that would be every American family. Beyond that there's some reoccurring themes, the importance of crop insurance, the importance of research, the importance of trade, the importance of unleashing technology and innovation in terms of mechanization for some crops that really we haven't seen a significant investment in. American agriculture productivity has increased 287% since the 1940s. Now it slipped a little bit with this inflation to 279, but with the Speaker support, with the Agriculture Committee, with the House, we're working on this farm bill, we're going to put policies in place where we can take that to a 400% increase by the year 2035.”
