US beef exports set annual records for both volume and value in 2022. According to year to end, according to year-end data released by USDA and compiled by the US Meat Export Federation pork exports finished lower year over year, but export value was the third largest on record led by an outstanding performance in Mexico, USMEF president Dan Halstrom.

“What makes the record even more impressive is that we had quite a few headwinds, and there was probably none bigger than strong US dollar, especially in October/November of last year. So that combined with the remaining COVID impact Korea and Japan and China had pretty severe restrictions around COVID. May, Japan, and Korea we relaxed but it was December before China was relaxed. So suffice it to say that food service was decimated in China and it's pretty darn slow in Japan and Korea

pork exports to Mexico achieved a record-breaking year with export value soaring 21% A top $2 billion for the first time”

Halstrom says pork exports to China also strengthened significantly in the second half of the year.”

“We're down a little over 8% year on year, but it was the third largest value year ever for export. There's two stories on the pork side for the year. Number one is Mexico's fabulous year with record growth. The other side of the story is China China year on year numbers in the first half of 2022. We're off of record highs from 2021 us.”
