From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. Saturday is World Pear Day which kicks off Celebrate Pears Month, as December is the best time of year to find and enjoy Northwest pears.

Pear Bureau Northwest’s Jeff Correa says Saturday’s celebration involves 12 hours of delicious fun on the Chef Live Stream on www.Kittch.com …

CORREA … “So, it starts a little early in the morning for the West Coast folks. So, it’s 5:00am in the morning and the last one starting at 4:00pm. So, each of the segments will be an hour long. It’ll be a chef demoing a recipe with filler content, grower videos. We’ll have some special guests that will appear on the virtual Chef’s Table that MC’s will also be interact with and asking them questions.”

The rest of December, Correa says is filled with pear education and celebration …

CORREA … “We’ll do recaps in the days and probably weeks afterwards on the different chef recipes, the bios, trying to stretch it out beyond just one day of promotions.”

Correa says it’s an “ins-PEAR-ational” way to enjoy delicious pears …

CORREA … “Well, I think on consumers, I hope they’re putting a little more pears in their shopping baskets for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. And, I think for retailers and importers, it’s reminding that pears are a big part of the produce department and USAPears are readily available during this peak season.”
