California Walnut Forecast Down Slightly and Vilsack on ReConnect Program
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with your Agribusiness Update.**California’s walnut crop, now in harvest, is forecast at 720,000 tons, which would be down by 1% from last year.

California produces 99% of America’s walnuts.
This year, the state had 400,000 bearing acres of walnuts, with 60% of the nuts destined for export markets.
**Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the USDA is awarding $502 million in loans and grants to help provide high-speed internet for rural areas in 20 states.
USDA is making these investments through the ReConnect Program.
Vilsack says, high-speed internet will improve the rural economy, and help rural businesses gain access to new markets, as well as help rural residents access better health care and educational opportunities.
More investment announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
