Hot weather arrived a bit early and the extreme temperatures can present challenges for livestock owners.

Karla Jenkins Nebraska Extension range management cow-calf specialist says calves need some special attention during this time.

Jenkins says the calves, also need to be able to reach the water.

This year temperatures went from cold to hot and the cows and calves haven't had time to acclimate. Jenkins adds along with adequate water, and shade if possible, would also help the pairs in keeping heat stress at bay.
