Healthy food starts with healthy soils says Lucent Biosciences chief product officer Jason McNamee. The company has developed a sustainable, non-leaching micronutrient fertilizer.

McNamee… “Our secret is that we've been able to attach nutrients to a low value cellulose fiber source in such a way that those nutrients do not tie up. They do not leach. The cellulose in the product acts as a food source for the microbiome. The microbiome in turn is feeding those nutrients to your crop when the crop needs it, which is a completely novel delivery system for nutrients.”

McNamee said this novel delivery system has been trialed extensively in a variety of crops, and the results have been very positive in terms of yield, quality, and nutrient utilization.

McNamee… “You're gonna use one or two pounds an acre less of potassium than you would usually, same with one or two pounds less of sulfur than you would usually. And this is also going to account for all of the micronutrients that you're going to need in your plant. So there's a benefit in using a little bit less of the macros and delivering those micros on time and seeing that result in your ROI at the end.”

Lucent’s current focus is on row crops, but they continue to see promising results in specialty crop trials as well.
