When many people talk about sustainable agriculture, they are referring to practices. Things like no-till, organic, cover crops, or regenerative. But the key to truly sustainable agriculture, says Dan Kittredge of the Bionutrient Food Association, is shifting the conversation to outcomes.

Kittredge… “Permaculture doesn't have a results metric. Organic does not have a results metric. Biodynamic does not have a results metric. You know, they're talking about practices and techniques.”

Kittredge started the Bionutrient Food Association to focus on the nutritional content of food and how it is linked to those practices.

Kittredge… “It seemed to me that the nutritional value of the food, it was the center or the high ground. The point around which as far as I'm concerned, no one can disagree or no one will disagree. People generally will say yes, food should be nutritious. And so that's really where we have found our niche. When I looked around and I said, you know who out there is focusing on this point? You know, who was focusing on the nutritional value of the food as an objective? And I couldn't find any organization out there globally that was doing it. And so I said, well, you know, I've been looking for a purpose. This seems like a, a reasonable one. You know, something to do with my life.”
