It’s time for your Farm of the Future Report. I’m Tim Hammerich.

The agriculture industry needs good people, but it’s a difficult industry to break into, at least in North America. American entrepreneurs such as Hello Tractor’s Jehiel Oliver are finding opportunities in developing countries. In Oliver’s case, he has started a company connecting tractor owners with group of farmers in need of tractor services. He said a model like this probably wouldn’t be needed in a mature market like the U.S., but there are tremendous opportunities internationally.

Oliver… “It's important for the listeners in North America to know that, you know, Africa is open for business and there was a lot of opportunity. The Cargills of the world do not exist in Africa yet, not in a meaningful way. And so when you think about opportunities and upside in a market, you can participate in markets where 99% of what's there is pretty well established, and there's not a whole lot of room for really transformative growth, just innovation around the edges. Or you can be in a market where it's a complete greenfield and you're in the early stages of building the first Cargill or John Deere. And that's exciting, like, yes, they're going to be challenges, but the upside far exceed the risks.”
