With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. With pear harvest in full swing across the Pacific Northwest, keep an eye out for the pear promotions that are already beginning to pop up wherever you look.

Pear Bureau Northwest president, Kevin Moffitt says the promotions are intended to keep our delicious pears ‘front of mind’ as more come into the stores …

MOFFITT … “Yeah, that’s correct. And, we try and reach the consumer before they shop, and some of that is with our online, social media advertising.”

The promotions, Moffitt says come in a variety of formats for consumers …

MOFFITT … “When they are shopping online, for example, we will be having sponsored search and some banner ads on popular online sites. And then, when they’re in the store we’re going to have, for example, bins are being rolled out right now across quite a number of stores across the U.S. And these display bins will ad more space for pears, but it also will add a secondary display.”

And some of the in-store promos, Moffitt says are interactive …

MOFFITT … “This year we’ve put on a QR code, a Quick Response code, that consumers can just point their camera at and it will bring up a video, a short video that just highlights the growers of USA Pears so consumers get to see who’s growing their fruit and where their fruit comes from, which is very popular among consumers.”
