Wildfire Management Pt 1

I’m Bob Larson. U.S. Representatives Dan Newhouse, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, and Kim Schrier are calling on federal officials in an attempt to bring attention to the level of destruction caused by massive wildfires in our state.

Newhouse says they’ve called on the two departments most impacted by the fires…

NEWHOUSE … “The three of us sent an invitation to the Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, as well as the Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland. We want them to come to see first hand the damage that is being caused, again, by these catastrophic wildfires that are happening in our state.”

As to why it’s so important? …

NEWHOUSE … “Is to see, first hand, what happens when we don’t adequately manage our forests. The federal forests in our state are large, they’re huge. There’s a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done and I think it’s just tremendously important for them to see first-hand what happens when that work is not done.”

We’re hoping, Newhouse says a visit will drive the point home …

NEWHOUSE … “That sense of getting it done, that sense of urgency has to be there or we’ll never catch up and we’ll just continue to see these catastrophes happen on an annual basis.”

Tune in tomorrow for more on the call to USDA and Department of the Interior to come and see, first hand, what happens when forests are mis-managed.
