IFBF P&E tours Canary Creek logging

There’s a lot of logging going on at Canary Creek just outside of Cataldo, Idaho. The nation's building supplies are scarce and expensive. I have 3 good friends who are residential builders and they are telling me that in order to build a house, their budgets for lumber have increased over 30% from a year ago. The cost of 2X4’s and plywood have skyrocketed to record highs, if you can find them. Real estate agents concur…they have never seen prices for homes in Idaho so high. That’s why there’s such stepped up logging efforts in Northern Idaho. Reid Ahlf at the Idaho Forest Group. Then all of a sudden, there's been this huge demand for lumber and we're just we can't make it fast enough. Promotion and education members see firsthand what's happening in the lumber market and they're learning new logging techniques are fast and efficient. P&E chair Alan Clark. “It's exciting to see all the big equipment. Just like agriculture, there’s so much that goes into producing a 2X4 that's in the store. We see that they’re in there, we can go and pick them up whenever we want but these men and women out here working, provide that lumber for us. The infrastructure and the manpower it takes to produce the lumber, It's just amazing to be out here on the mountain and see the process. A process understood and respected by hardworking farmers.
