With all of the latest in ag technology helping farmers capture more data, the question becomes more about all of this data can help save farmers money or make them money. AgMonitor is one company using artificial intelligence to convert data to useful information for farmers to make management decisions related to crops, water and energy.

CEO Olivier Jerphagnon, says it’s not just about facilitating information, but also communication amongst everyone in a modern farming operation.

Jerphagnon… “One of the things we have developed under the grant from the energy commission is to have a mobile app that is very accessible to fill workers in Spanish, as much as an English. So they can have a conversation about their constraints, which more than regulation now. There are also labor changes for irrigators, also weather related issues, infrastructure can break. Irrigation scheduling, for example, is key to improving the crop management. And we've seen that actually improving communication has a bigger impact on the revenue than a particular widget, like a new sensor. The new technology from sensors can be really useful only if the team has good communication.”

Last year the company decided to change its name fromPowWow Energy to AgMonitor, and they’ve already validated the technology on over 100,000 acres and raised $4.5m to continue expanding.
