With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. The Auction of Washington Wines is out with its 2021 lineup of in-person and virtual events, with past favorites held both online and face to face.

The Auction’s Executive Director, Jaime Peha says we’ve got a busy six months ahead of us, beginning with the first event in a few short weeks …

PEHA … “We have, on April 19th and 20th, is the Private Barrel Auction which is a super important auction to the industry, because the audience is really qualified trade from across the country.”

And those trade folks, Peha says will consider some very special wines …

PEHA … “These business people are bidding on 5-case lots of unique, one-of-a-kind wines that are made exclusively for this event. And, the trade then is able to offer these one-of-a-kind items to their top clientele.”

Peha says these events are normally in-person tastings with the winemakers …

PEHA … “But, this year, since we took it virtual, we created a sample program so the trade could request samples from those wineries that they might be interested in bidding on their specific wines and we got samples to them.”

And, the proceeds …

PEHA … “The Private Barrel Auction raises funds specifically for Washington State University Viticulture and Enology Research.”
