California is known of course for its agriculture but also for its technology. So it’s no surprise that it also is a leader in agtech. After covering stories of agtech as a journalist for several years, Amy Wu decided to write a book about the women trailblazers playing a leadership role in the budding industry.

Wu… “It started when I was a local reporter in the Salinas Valley back in 2016. I had come fresh from Fresno, where I was covering things in Parlier and Reedley and that area, but I was assigned to cover agriculture and local government in Salinas. And then, looked around - I didn't see a lot of women in leadership roles in ag. I didn't see a lot of women who look like myself. So I just started to ask around: do you know of any minority women entrepreneurs in ag tech?”

As she started asking these questions, she began to find some fascinating women doing great things in agriculture technology, many of which had ties to California. Wu made a documentary about some of these women, and now has a book coming out next month.

Wu… “I thought, why not collect these stories and have portraits of them? Now, the book is being released on April 20th. It's 24 plus profiles of women innovators and entrepreneurs in the agtech space. Most of them have some connection, like I said, with California agriculture.”
