There has never been a time where we’ve had this much information available at our fingertips. But that doesn’t always make it easy to find credible information, especially when it comes to farming. In fact, it may make it harder. One source of reliable information about farming almonds is TheAlmondDoctor.com. Started in 2009 by then farm advisor David Doll, the blog has grown into an encyclopedia of almond knowledge.

Doll… “I was trying to find out how do you plant an almond tree? And it was like a WikiHow page and it was terrible advice. And I said, well, this just can't work. If I'm here looking online for answers to questions, there has to be farmers doing the same. So that's what kind of drove my motivation to start this thing.”

While Doll is now an almond grower and no longer a farm advisor, he still regularly posts on the site.

Doll… “It's a form that I like still, and I still keep it updated, and I encourage people to check it out. I enjoy trying to explain horticultural subjects in writing. And I always felt that if you can write something, then you can explain it. It's one of the hardest forms of communication to perfect, especially from a technical component. And I think it helped make me a better horticulturalist in the end.”
