USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service held an all day virtual meeting to discuss efforts to reduce harmful salmonella in meat, poultry and egg products. We have spent most of today discussing our strategy for how we plan to achieve this goal as an agency. But we know there are always different opinions and ideas out there. That was Deputy Undersecretary for Food Safety Mindy Brashears. As we move into our public comment period. I want us to stay focused on our common goal of reducing salmonella and reducing food borne illnesses. She adds that USDA welcomes all ideas and that they will be reviewed with an open mind. We know that multiple perspectives can often spark new ideas or lead you to reconsider a strategy that you may have previously dismissed.” Public comments can be submitted via regulations.gov up until October 16th.
