Georgia hemp harvest is fast approaching. The new crop must be tested to make sure is within permissible levels of CBD and THC. Most of the crop will be harvested in early October says Mary Blomgren, a Farm Services Liaison with Second Century Ag.

Blomgren… “Right now, starting last week, we started testing for the CBD and THC level. Here in Georgia it can't be past 0.3. So folks who have tested at 0.2 maybe harvesting as soon as next week. Though we're looking at mostly the window being from October 1st to October 15th.”

Second Century contracts with farmers throughout Georgia, and processes the hemp at their facility in Ocilla. But first, the plants must be harvested and dried.

Blomgren… “It will be harvested one of two ways: there is either a harvester similar to what they would use for tobacco or for cotton, you know, a very big, huge piece of equipment. Otherwise they will be hand harvesting. From there, they go into drying barns. That biomass is then brought to Second Century where we process it into CBD oil.”
