Food Prices Increasing

If you go to the grocery store, then you probably already know this. The cost of buying food is more than it used to be, and not just over the last several years. Experts say, for the remainder of 2020, the food price forecast says prices are heading up.

Carolyn Chelius with the USDA explains.

The food product that saw the highest hike in price is beef and veal, followed by pork and eggs, according to the most recent information available from the USDA.

Beef and veal are 25 percent more expensive in June 2020 than June 2019, while pork and eggs went up by 12 percent each.

The price of fresh fruit dropped by 1 percent.

The trend of rising food costs is predicted to carry over into 2020 when, overall, food prices are expected to grow by 2 to 3 percent, the USDA said.
