With today’s Fruit Grower Report, I’m Bob Larson. Vital Wines, is Walla Walla’s non-profit winery that puts all they earn towards healthcare for vineyard and cellar workers in the valley.

So, it’s of little surprise that they’re currently working to raise funds for those workers who might need “A Day at Home” during these troubling times when not everyone or every situation qualifies for assistance.

Vital founder and winemaker Ashley Trout says so far so good …

TROUT … “We have attracted, so far, we raised like

$15,000 in three days, and that’s with Facebook and Instagram and newsletter lists that it is not jam-packed full of millionaires. I mean, it’s a really, it’s a heart-warming testament to who is on our side and I greatly appreciate that.”

But, Trout says there are very legitimate cases where people can’t get the help they need …

TROUT … “We’ve been very honest about the fact that intrinsic to this mission, this very specific Day at Home mission, is that you’ve got to trust us. We are going to give this money to people who do fall through the cracks.”

As far as who will get the assistance, Trout says …

TROUT … “The stipulations on who we hand the money out to are a little bit vague and that’s on purpose, because we need to be able to cut through all that red tape that nobody else could cut through by simply not having the red tape in the first place. And, I think people understand that. I think donors, get that.”
