Cali Avacado Estimates Up and China Pork Prices Higher

**Despite a damaging heat wave as the fruit developed, California avocado farmers will produce a larger-than-expected crop.

The avocado season officially ends at the end of October, and marketers say the California harvest could be as much as

30% higher than preseason estimates.

The California Avocado Commission says the upcoming crop could be much larger, if weather remains favorable.

**The National Bureau of Statistics in China reports pork prices there have increased 69.3 percent, compared to last year.

Overall, according to agrimarketing.com, food prices have increased 8.4 percent since last year, but African swine fever has taken a toll on pork production in China as experts believe the virus has wiped out as much as half of the nation's pork herd.

Reuters reports Chinese importers recently made a record large weekly purchase of American pork, ahead of trade talks with the United States.

**White House trade adviser Peter Navarro is pointing to next month’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Chile as the Trump administration seeks to formalize and finalize its “phase one” trade pact with China.
