Fresno County Number 1 in Production
We have reported on record breaking 2018 Fresno County Crop Report.
The Agriculture Commissioner's office reported that Fresno County’s total gross production value for 2018 is nearly 7.9 billion dollars. (( $7,887,583,790. This represents an increase of $859,559,690 or 12.23% over the previous year’s total of $7,028,024,100.. ))
Ryan Jacobson CEO of the Fresno County Farm Bureau spoke with California Ag Today’s Patrick Cavanaugh and says now that with other crop reporting is complete, they have learned that Fresno County is once again the top producer in the nation.
JACOBSON: “Fresno County’s back on top after vacating that in 2013 because of the severe drought that we went through in this region and very much hammered out west side which obviously cost us production there. The one take away from this is absolutely amazing. Fresno number 1, Kern number 2, Tulare number 3. All right here contiguous. These counties do amazing things. Not just those 3 counties but the valley in general is literally doing something that ends up on every American’s plate every single day. What does on in our backyard takes place in very few regions of the world.”
Kern County is #2 with production value of $7.4 Billion and Tulare County is #3 with $7.2 Billion
The valley grows 400 different crops.
Jacobson says becoming the number one producing county in the nation is a statement of the hard work the farmers and ranchers of the valley do everyday. He says this is another opportunity to celebrate them.
